THE DIAGNODENT SYSTEM
For most of us, the dentist’s office was hardly considered a place of comfort, let alone a high-tech one. However, dentistry has come a long way in helping prevent disease as well as treating teeth.
The Kavo DIAGNOdent is used to scan teeth with harmless laser light, searching for hidden decay that cannot be reliably detected with conventional tools, such as x-rays. This is partially because fluoride in the water makes the outer tooth structure very hard. However, teeth with hidden signs of decay fluoresce or “glow” under the high intensity laser light.
The DIAGNOdent enables us to get an accurate diagnosis of whether decay is present and the intensity of the decay process. With this information we can either monitor any suspicious areas, or if necessary, treat teeth using modern day bonding techniques more conservatively than if we waited to find it with the explorers that were used by older generations.
